Role Overview
The Associate Director will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing Surge Africa’s operations and programmatic systems to ensure organisational sustainability.
Responsibilities:
The Associate Director designs, implements, and oversees systems focused on efficient financial and human resources, office and operational management, regulatory compliance, and organisational sustainability.
Work closely with the Executive Director to promote the growth and healthy development of the organisation including strategic planning, quarterly goal setting, and day-to-day operations.
Assist Executive Director in building and implementing SAO’s strategic roadmaps and suggest areas of improvement.
Facilitate grant writing activities and see to fundraising.
Assist in management and oversight of budget, fundraising, andreporting.
Assist with updating and publishing the organisation's communication such as press releases, website, and promotional material.
Attend staff, board, and other relevant meetings as necessary
Coordinate hiring of staff including volunteers and interns.
Provide various office duties to include telephone, paper and email communication.
Assist with document review and editing.
Oversee the Program officers and general staff.
Manages human resource functions, including recruiting, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and performance evaluation system.
Take on additional tasks as directed by the Executive Director.
Skills and Qualifications:
A Master’s degree.
8 + years relevant experience in a managerial role (Experience in the Climate or NGO Space is a plus).
Experience in human resources policies and procedures and/or with compensation and benefits.
A strong sense of teamwork and ability to both manage and execute programs.
An extremely proactive and determined attitude.
Competency in digital software and virtual workspaces.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
Ability to multitask and good hold of strong organisational skills,
Polite, clear and compelling communication skills.
A good understanding of climate change and its landscape.
