impact & strategic Media
We work with media entities, activists, and movements leveraging impact storytelling, strategic communications and movement coordination to frame inclusive narratives that put voices of the frontline defenders at the forefront of climate action.
Through our media work, we have bridged gaps in movement building and creative capacity between storytellers, activists, and environmental defenders within the global southern movement building space by developing a Global Majority network that connects struggles of South-South frontliners as an avenue to convene, connect and create powerful strategies and change narratives around our shared goals of freedom, justice and equality to dismantle oppressive neocolonial systems that undermine our right to fight corporate and political impunity.
DIVE INTO OUR PROGRAMS

The Climate Reporting Gap Initiative is a project by Surge Africa, delivered in partnership with One World Media, Mutante & the University of Birmingham
The Climate Reporting Gap Initiative is committed to rapidly responding to pressing and emerging climate challenges by elevating progressive journalism that places local realities at the forefront. By prioritizing stories that reflect the struggles, innovations, and lived experiences of communities, the initiative strengthens public understanding and drives action. This approach not only amplifies grassroots voices but also creates space for community-led solutions to influence policy, shift narratives, and shape climate discourse. Through timely, inclusive reporting, we ensure that local demands gain visibility in national and global arenas, advancing equitable climate action and accelerating meaningful, systems-level change. SurgeX bridges community impact with climate data, converting information into powerful action through accessible storytelling and advocacy journalism. By making climate insights visually engaging and easy to understand, we position media as a catalyst for public awareness, mobilization, and systemic change. Our approach weaves together culture, politics, history, and heritage to ground climate issues in lived realities and collective values. This integrated framework enables communities to critically engage with the social, economic, and global forces shaping their future, while driving inclusive dialogue, informed decision-making, and transformative climate action across local and national contexts. SurgeX programs are delivered under the;
Narrative Lab which develops models of strategic and impact media communications that seeks to shape new thinking, perception and imaginaries about the social, cultural and political structures that shape climate and environmental realities of the Global South Movement Lab
