Join Us in Driving Nigeria’s Future Towards Clean Transportation

The Youth Climate Collective, an initiative of Surge Africa, has officially launched the Drive the Future campaign, leveraging Nigeria’s national budget as a strategic entry point to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption and drive decarbonization efforts. With existing policies like the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) and the Energy Transition Plan (ETP) recommending government leadership in EV adoption, this campaign urges the federal government to take the first step by ensuring that all newly purchased government vehicles starting from  2025 are electric.

In the 2025 national budget, the Federal Government allocated 4.76 billion Naira for the purchase of new vehicles for the State House. The Drive the Future campaign is calling on the government to demonstrate real commitment to Nigeria's decarbonization goals by ensuring these vehicles are electric. This will not only reduce emissions but will place Nigeria as a leader in clean mobility across Africa.

The campaign aims to  build momentum for Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption across Nigeria, increase pressure on the Nigerian government to allocate budget funding for decarbonization and ensure that newly purchased government vehicles are electric.

Next Steps & How to Get Involved

Nigerians can join the conversation online using the hashtag #DriveTheFutureNG and relevant civil society organisations can also sign the demand letter calling for all new government vehicle purchases to be electric.
